Adam to Jesus

As best as I can figure from a reading of the bible, the timeline from the creation of Adam to the birth of Jesus goes something like this:

1 - from Adam’s creation until the Genesis Flood, there were about 1,650 years.

2- from the Genesis Flood to the Hebrew Exodus from Egypt - 850 years.

3 - from the Exodus to Israel's first king - 390 years.

4 - from King David to King Nebuchadnezzar's attack on Jerusalem - 510 years.

5 - from the Babylonian captivity to rebuilding of the Jerusalem wall - 150 years.

6 - then 450 years of silence before the birth of Jesus in about 4 BCE.

Approximately 4,000 years from the first humans (Adam & Eve) to Jesus, then about 2,000 years from Jesus to the present day, for a total of about 6,000 years of human existence.

There are some very intelligent people who believe this (I used to believe this, and while not a genius, I was capable of normal mental functions) - and they have come to believe this for one reason only - they were taught this because of the chronology in the bible.  They didn’t come to believe this as a result of scientific investigation.

I have to wonder, now that these intelligent people who believe the biblical chronology, have (surely by now) been exposed to the modern chronology that is based on scientific evidence, why do these people continue to believe, (and some loudly proclaim) that the biblical chronology is true and it is the science based chronology that is false?

Perhaps we should explore and compare some of the dates of human existence that are based on scientific evidence:

Adam and Eve - The first humans, were created by God about 6,000 years ago.

~ BUT ~

The Barnenez Mound - a Neolithic monument located near Brittany France. It dates to the early Neolithic, about 4800 BCE (6,800 years ago). It is considered one of the earliest monuments in Europe, as well as one of the oldest man-made structures in the world - about 800 years before Adam and Eve.

Piedra Museo - An archaeological site in Argentina has yielded human bones and stone tools dating to about 11,000 years ago. - about 5,000 years before Adam and Eve.

Naia - For more than 12,000 years, this adolescent girl’s bones lay underwater, deep in a Mexican cave. Analysis of her skeleton is revealing details of her harsh existence in the early Americas — which probably included pregnancy and childbirth before death at a young age of 15-17. The skeleton also reveals that Naia experienced severe and repeated nutritional stress that scarred her bones and teeth. Naia’s slight build might have been linked to nutritional stress. Her shin bone and knee are striped with lines etched by halting growth, perhaps as a result of too little food, or health problems such as parasite infections that prevented her from absorbing nutrients. It appears that Naia, who was probably looking for food or shelter, fell to her death in the cave, alone - about 6,000 years before Adam and Eve.

Five Mile Point Caves - In 2014 in this Oregon cave, the oldest DNA evidence of human habitation in North America was found. The DNA, radiocarbon dated to 14,300 years ago, was found in a fossilized human dung - about 7,300 years before Adam and Eve.

Virginia - Indigenous peoples have occupied this region for at least 18,000 years - about 12,000 years before Adam and Eve. (a friend of mine found a large stone ax head on his Virginia property that has been dated to about 12,000 years old)

Clovis - Dating back to about 13,000 years ago, the "Clovis culture" was long thought to be the earliest human inhabitants of North America, but throughout the 21st century new finds consistently suggest the presence of an older culture. Now, archaeologists have uncovered stone tools at a dig site in Texas that could be as old as 20,000 years - about 14,000 years before Adam and Eve.

Mungo Man - Skeletal remains of a man who lived about 40,000 years ago in primitive Australia. Scientists studying his skeletal remains estimate that he died at about 50 years old and suffered from severe arthritis - about 34,000 years before Adam and Eve.

Art - The oldest known cave paintings are over 40,000 years old, found in both the Franco-Cantabrian region in western Europe, and in the caves in the district of Maros in Indonesia - about 34,000 years before Adam and Eve.

Jebel Irhoud - An archaeological site in Morocco has yielded thousands of ancient human remains that have been dated as far back as 300,000 years ago - about 294,000 years before Adam and Eve.

At this point it seems obvious that the calculations based on the biblical chronology, while they may be biblically correct, are in reality, falsified by science, and the Christians who cling to the biblical chronology of human existence, ignoring and even disparaging the scientific evidence that is contrary to what they believe the bible says, have to be wrong.
