Questions For God

  There are Christians who seem very confident in their claim to "know the will of God" for their lives.  Some Christians have discovered (somehow) exactly what it is that God has decided He wants for their life with regard to: What their profession should be (even though they will likely change their profession at some point, and likely numerous times) What college to attend (did God also chose what elementary, middle, and high school they would attend, or did they just attend what ever school was in their district / county) What company they should work for (and what other company they should work for) Where they should live (which I suspect that God picks what ever is available) Who they should marry (which according to statistics, half the time God picks the wrong spouse for them) What church to attend (again - it often turns out to be the wrong church for them) How many children they should have (apparently it depends on the century - 200 years ago God wanted most Chris

. . . or at least it poisons everything that it touches. ( apologies  to Christopher Hitchens) Recently we had our twice-a-year employee meeting for our county public school system. There were about 130 employees in the high school auditorium. One of the very first things on the agenda was an opening prayer .  I don't know the person who prayed.  I don't know if he was a minister who was invited specifically to pray, or if he was an employee.  I don't know if he came to supervision and asked if he could open the meeting with prayer or if supervision sought out someone to pray. Here is what I do know - in spite of this prayer: Little Johnny will still bully little Joey during recess. Little Nancy will still cheat on her math test. Little Bobby will still stick his middle finger up after the bus driver tells him to stay in his seat. Teacher Linda will still have to get a restraining order against her abusive ex-husband. There will still be another mass shooting at a school,
