Where are all the Christians

Image
Where I currently live, I have lived for the past 20+ years.  I live directly between two churches.  If I walk to the end of my driveway and I then turn left and walk along the road, in a few minutes I will be standing in front of one of these churches.  If instead I take a right at the end of my driveway, in a little less time I'll be standing in front of the other church. In the 20 years that I have lived here, not a single person from either church has knocked on my front door.  There has even been times over the years, during funerals at these churches, that I would walk out and flag down attendees to let them park in my driveway (I can easily fit 8-10 vehicles) since they don't have much room at the churches for parking.  And yet - not a single visit to my door, ever. I became a bible believer at age 17.  For the next 25 years as a Christian, not once did another Christian knock at my door to talk to me about Jesus.  Not once did a Christian ever approach me out in publi

Palmaris Longus

Image
From Wikipedia: The palmaris longus is a muscle visible (in humans) as a small tendon between the flexor carpi radialis and the flexor carpi ulnaris, although it is not always present. It is absent in about 14 percent of the population; however, this number varies greatly in African, Asian, and Native American populations. Absence of the palmaris longus does not have any effect on grip strength. The palmaris longus muscle can be seen by touching the pads of the fourth finger and thumb and flexing the wrist (upwards). The tendon, if present, will be visible in the mid-line of the anterior wrist. Notice at the "X". The muscle is present in the wrist on the right - it is missing on the wrist on the left. Wikipedia continues: The evolutionary interpretation of the muscle's absence is fairly simple. Humans inherited the muscle through common descent, and numerous animals that we share a common ancestor with (such as the orangutan) still actively employ the muscle. Close primat

Death by Gravity

Image
Hi God, me again, A fall is defined as an event which results in a person coming to rest, inadvertently, on the ground or floor or other lower level. Falls are the second leading cause of accidental injury deaths worldwide. Each year, world-wide, an estimated 650,000 individuals die from falls. Adults older than 65 years of age suffer the greatest number of fatal falls. For every one person who dies in a terrorist attack, eleven people die from an accidental fall. Questions: 1 - God, why did you create the Earth of a size and density which produces a gravitational pull strong enough that simply slipping in your shower can cause serious injury or death? 2 - God, why did you make people of my age (60+) especially susceptible to this form of injury or death? Other examples of death by gravity: Falling or jumping from a high place (building, bridge, tree, cliff). Airplane crashing to the ground. An object falling onto you (airplane, tree, high building). Anything falling during an earthqu

Water Baptism

Image
Dear God, OK, water baptism?  The bible is anything but clear on the purpose and method that you require for water baptism.  God, all you have to do is google “water baptism” and you will see that you have failed miserably at giving clear instructions in the bible.  And if you need more evidence, just listen to your followers and your ministers.  They have been arguing over this topic for millennia.  And since the bible is not specific, Christians are left to simply follow their denominational traditions when getting baptized. From Wikipedia :     There is a scholarly consensus that the earliest Christian baptism was by immersion . Thomas Schreiner states that "Most scholars agree that immersion was practiced in the NT", identifying submersion as the form of immersion practiced. Heyler says most New Testament scholars generally agree that Christian baptism in the New Testament era was by immersion. Everett Ferguson similarly speaks of "general scholarly agreement" t

Adam to Jesus

Image
Dear God,  As best as I can figure from a reading of the bible, the timeline from the creation of Adam to the birth of Jesus goes something like this: 1 - from Adam’s creation until the Genesis Flood, there were about 1,650 years. 2 - from the Genesis Flood to the Exodus from Egypt - 850 years.  3 - from the Exodus to Israel's first king - 390 years. 4 - from King David to King Nebuchadnezzar attack on Jerusalem - 510 years. 5 - from the Babylonian captivity to rebuilding of the Jerusalem wall - 150 years. 6 - then 450 years of silence before the birth of Jesus in about 4 BCE. So, approximately 4,000 years from the first humans (Adam & Eve) to Jesus, then about 2,000 years from Jesus to the present day, for a total of about 6,000 years of human existence. There are some very intelligent people who believe this (I used to believe this, and while not a genius , I was capable of normal mental functions) - and they have come to believe this for one reason only - they were tau

I have many questions for God.  I have asked some of these questions to the followers of God, commonly known as "Christians" in my part of the world.  I seldom get a satisfactory answer from them, and most often, their answers only lead to more questions.  For instance, some time ago I was discussing the existence of the God of the bible with one of his followers and at some point in our lengthy email discussion the Christian said:   “The natural world is all around you and shouts out the existence of God . Stop and listen. Watch a caterpillar create a cocoon, and then emerge as a butterfly. Look at a flower, and ponder .” ~ Doug "Look at a flower, and ponder " , so I did just that: Lilly of the valley   So beautiful, dainty, petite. I have photographed these in the Virginia woods. Symptoms after eating: vomiting, diarrhea, seizures. Morning glory These grow by the hundreds every summer along my back fence. I have taken dozens of close-up photographs of them - on
