The Christian Bible - what's up with that?

~ The Christian Bible ~

I beg you, my dear, thinking, reasonable Christian - ignore, just for a moment, the claims of divine authorship that are found in the bible, then ask yourself - is there any indication, any evidence at all, that the bible is the result of, or the product of, the mind of the Christian God?  Please contemplate on that for a bit.

~ Then ask yourself ~

Isn't the simplest, most obvious explanation for the words found on the pages of the bible, (even the claims in the bible that the words contained there in are from God), is that the bible is very likely the product of the mind of men - nothing more, nothing less?

I submit that it is perfectly reasonable to conclude that mere men wrote down: ~what they believed
~what they heard
~what they read elsewhere
~and in some cases, what they observed themselves
Then eventually, some thousands of years ago, copies of these ancient documents found their way into the volume that today we call the "Holy Bible".
I find absolutely no evidence that an all knowing god played any role at all in this process.

Now - having said all of that, wouldn't it be best for humanity, today, if we refrain from consulting the Christian bible for guidance in how our societies should be governed, what is right or wrong, what is moral or immoral?  Why would any individual, community, or society today insist that any people should need to follow what is written in the Christian bible?  It seems obvious to me now that the Christian bible was written by ancient, flawed, deeply religious men who were clinging to and promoting their religious traditions - traditions that had been developing over many generations by the ancients that lived before them.

Isn't it time that we treat the bible as a curious historical literary object rather than a guide for modern life?

"The inspiration of the Bible depends upon the ignorance of the gentleman who reads it."
