The Will of God . . .

There are Christians who seem very confident in their claim to "know the will of God" for their lives.  Some Christians have discovered (somehow) exactly what it is that God has decided He wants for their life with regard to:

What their profession should be
(even though they will likely change their profession at some point, and likely numerous times)
What college to attend
(did God also chose what elementary, middle, and high school they would attend, or did they just attend what ever school was in their district / county)
What company they should work for
(and what other company they should work for)
Where they should live
(which I suspect that God picks what ever is available)
Who they should marry
(which according to statistics, half the time God picks the wrong spouse for them)
What church to attend
(again - it often turns out to be the wrong church for them)
How many children they should have
(apparently it depends on the century - 200 years ago God wanted most Christians to have 10-15 kids)
What brand of car they should purchase
(they don't have to bother God with that - just ask me - Subaru)
What sports team they should pull for.
(the winning team, of course)

There are many Christians who, after expressing their confidence that God has given them specific direction as to what His will is, and after they have embarked on their new journey in obedience to God - eventually - within a few months or a few years, they come to realize that they must have been confused or perhaps they misinterpreted God's Holy guidance because, now they are confident that they chose the wrong path, with regard to schooling, profession, employment, spouse, etc., etc, and they are now bothering God once again for his guidance.
~ And then ~

Once again God will reveal to them his will for their next momentous (or insignificant) decision, and the Christian will confidently proclaim that God has been faithful, once again, in guiding them through their life's path.

I wonder if anyone has done a study to see how often God guides the Christian down the exact path that the Christian had desired to travel in the first place.  My guess - that is most often the case.  I suspect that the degree of confidence that the Christian has in Gods revealed will for them is directly proportional to the degree of desire that the Christian ALREADY HAD for that particular direction.  God guides them in the exact direction that they wanted to travel.
