Where are all the Christians?

Image
Where I currently live , I have lived for the past 15+ years.  I live directly between two churches.  If I walk to the end of my driveway and I then turn left and walk along the road, in a minute I will be standing in front of one of these churches.  If instead I take a right at the end of my driveway, in a minute I'll be standing in front of the other church. In the 15+ years that I have lived here, not a single person from either church has knocked on my front door.   There has even been times over the years, during funerals at these churches, that I have walked out and flagged down attendees to let them park in my driveway (I can easily fit 8-10 vehicles) since they don't have much room at the churches for parking.  And yet - not a single visit to my door, ever . ~ ~ ~ I became a bible believer at age 17.  For the next 25 years as a Christian, not once did another Christian knock at my door to talk to me about Jesus.  Not once did a Ch...

Palmaris Longus

Image
From Wikipedia: The palmaris longus is a muscle visible (in humans) as a small tendon between the flexor carpi radialis and the flexor carpi ulnaris - but - it is not always present. It is absent in about 14 percent of the population; however, this number varies greatly in African, Asian, and Native American populations. Absence of the palmaris longus does not have any effect on grip strength. The palmaris longus muscle can be seen by touching the pads of the fourth finger and thumb and flexing the wrist (upwards). The tendon, if present, will be visible in the mid-line of the anterior wrist. Notice at the "X". The muscle is present in the wrist on the right - it is missing on the wrist on the left. Wikipedia continues: The evolutionary interpretation of the muscle's absence is fairly simple. Humans inherited the muscle through common descent , and numerous animals that we share a common ancestor with (such as the orangutan) still actively employ the muscle. Close prim...

Death by Gravity

Image
A fall is defined as an event which results in a person coming to rest, inadvertently, on the ground or floor or other lower level. Falls are the second leading cause of accidental injury deaths worldwide. Each year an estimated 650,000 individuals die from falls. Adults older than 65 years of age suffer the greatest number of fatal falls. For every one person who dies in a terrorist attack, eleven people die from an accidental fall. Questions for Christians : 1 -  Why did God create the Earth of a size and density which produces a gravitational pull strong enough that simply slipping in your shower can cause serious injury or death? 2 - Why did God make people of my age (60+) especially susceptible to this form of injury or death? Other examples of death by gravity: Falling or jumping from a high place (building, bridge, tree, cliff). Airplane crashing to the ground. An object falling onto you - a tree for instance. Anything falling during an earthquake (buildings or bridg...

Water Baptism has a serious problem . . .

Image
. . . and I do mean SERIOUS ! Can you guess what that problem is? Acts 2:38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ~ ~ ~   Due to this verse  in Acts (and verses in other NT books), countless thousands of people - children, teens, and adults - are dead - d e a d , simply because they became convinced by the people that they looked up to, or because they were brought up in a particular religious tradition, they decided or were influenced to get dunked under water. As a Christian for 25 years, it had never dawned on me that water baptism could be dangerous . I did have questions concerning the mode, purpose, and perhaps the necessity of water baptism in our modern times, but I never, ever contemplated the safety of the practice. And as an atheist for the past 21 years, it never dawned on me that water baptism could be dangerous - b...

Adam to Jesus

Image
As best as I can figure from a reading of the bible, the timeline from the creation of Adam to the birth of Jesus goes something like this: 1 - from Adam’s creation until the Genesis Flood, there were about 1,650 years. 2 - from the Genesis Flood to the Hebrew Exodus from Egypt - 850 years.  3 - from the Exodus to Israel's first king - 390 years. 4 - from King David to King Nebuchadnezzar's attack on Jerusalem - 510 years. 5 - from the Babylonian captivity to rebuilding of the Jerusalem wall - 150 years. 6 - then 450 years of silence before the birth of Jesus in about 4 BCE. Approximately 4,000 years from the first humans (Adam & Eve) to Jesus, then about 2,000 years from Jesus to the present day, for a total of about 6,000 years of human existence. There are some very intelligent people who believe this (I used to believe this, and while not a genius , I was capable of normal mental functions) - and they have come to believe this for one reason only - they were tau...
